The European Parliament’s Committee on Culture and Education has carried out a study on the Internationalisation of Higher Education in the European context. This study is based on two surveys, an analysis of the role of digital learning and 10 national reports from EU countries and 7 from non-EU countries. The objective? Examine internationalisation strategies in higher education.
The following 10 key developments for Europe and the rest of the world have been identified in the study:
The 10 EU countries that have been analysed are Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Spain and the United Kingdom; and the seven non-EU countries are Australia, Canada, Colombia, Japan, Malaysia, South Africa and the USA.
The report provides an overview of key aspects of the higher education system in Spain and its international dimensions. The focus is on universities, since they dominate the higher-education sector in terms of concentration of students, public-funding levels and their visibility in society. The report sheds light on the policies and programmes that trace the Spanish approach to internationalisation in recent years.
It also highlights various strengths and weaknesses of Spain’s approach, as well as a number of key opportunities and challenges facing the sector now and in the future.
